| It's all from perspective, really. He's got grunge and grit under his nails and an unsavory addiction to nicotine like no one's business, but he scrapes by on pocket change and sleazy jobs nonetheless. The pay's shit and the publicity kinda sucks, but hell, it's better than most in his position could manage. When you're backed into a corner there's only so much you'll let yourself do before you get sucked into a vile, virile and vicious one-man-land chockfull of countless inconveniences bound to become normalcy over time, and so you think, sure, why the fuck not. Better than dying hungry. Badou's impression of the world as he knows it isn't much different. He may've gone through hell just to get where he is, and maybe he hasn't quite made it to the all-clear yet, but what does it matter? He's got skill, but he's clumsy. Sort've a coward when the tricks and turns get sticky, and that's where Haine comes in. Saved his ass more than once, 'course. Badou just wants some motherfucking retribution, or maybe he's in it for the kicks. Hard to tell. |

| He's got a brother, or rather, had one back before the shit really hit the fan. The signs of a tough life aren't always buried in scars slashed across skin or jerky paranoia or cold, blank expressions and family-fixations, 'cause he's past and done with that crap; sometimes it's much more obvious, sometimes it takes at least half your eyesight to finally recognize. But Badou doesn't think of himself at a disadvantage; he hardly notices the fact he wears somethin' over his dead right eye all the time, 'cause he's just so used to it by now. Shit happens. You can either cry, cry, cry over it the rest of your worthless life, or you can stand up and move the fuck on. No sense wasting time you could spend somewhere else, someplace else, as someone else. So he lives with it. Lives with the knowledge he's less than a hero but more than a villian; lives with the black smoke in his lungs and the bad aftertaste on his tongue; lives with the hope someday he'd get to be old enough that he wouldn't have to give a crap anymore, wouldn't have to run for his two-cent life every which way over every which matter, wouldn't have to shoot a gun and empty the lead in some bastard's chest just because it's in the job description. But he lives with it. |
